What to Expect After Your Breast Explant Surgery
At the Cosmetic Surgery Center, we aim to prepare our patients for their breast explant procedure as well as their recovery so they can feel confident about the entire process. When it comes to your recovery, there are a few key things to know that will help you to prepare for the process.
What to Expect After Your Breast Explant Procedure
Once your breast explant surgery is complete, the incisions will be sutured shut and the breasts will be carefully bandaged and wrapped. A special compression wrap will need to be worn to help manage swelling and provide support. The dressing will need to remain for around two days. After this time you will be able to remove them and shower normally. Antibiotics are typically not prescribed, though there are some exceptions based on certain conditions and the patient’s medical history.
There will be some bruising, swelling, and soreness. These issues will last for a few weeks but will subside over the course of your recovery. You should be able to resume most of your normal activities after around a week or two, but more strenuous activities like heavy lifting and exercise will need to be avoided for a minimum of 4 weeks. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled around a week after your breast explant to remove the sutures. Additional follow-up visits will be scheduled to make sure the recovery process is going smoothly.
