“Fluffing” is a term used to describe how the breast changes and improves after an explant surgery. An explant procedure is removal of a breast implant. It causes an immediate deflation in the breast that can often cause contour changes or deflation of the breast. This can be dramatic in some patients (especially patients with a small amount of natural breast tissue). The effects are noticeable right after surgery.

However, for many patients, the breasts will soften over time and the natural tissue will fill into some of these depressed areas creating a more natural breast shape. This is “fluffing.” It is the improvement in the breast shape and contour over time due to the softening and natural filling of the breast.

The breasts will continue to improve and soften into a more natural appearance most dramatically in the first 3 months, but ultimately up to a year after surgery.
